Ambassador claims Israel doesn't 'always act in the interests of the US' following Qatar strikes

On Wednesday, Israel’s UN envoy stated that his country did not consistently operate in alignment with the interests of its friend, the United States, following Israeli strikes aimed at Hamas leaders in Qatar, which elicited an uncommon reprimand from President Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, the White House stated that Trump opposed Israel’s choice to conduct military operations on the territory of a US ally and had already cautioned Qatar about the impending strikes.

However, Qatar, which accommodates a significant US military installation and serves as the site for multiple Gaza peace negotiations, stated that it had not gotten the alert from Washington until the lethal assault was well in progress.

“We do not consistently act in the interests of the United States.”  “We are coordinated, and they provide us with exceptional support, which we value; however, there are instances when we make decisions and subsequently inform the United States,” stated Israel’s UN ambassador, Danny Danon, during an interview with an Israeli radio station.

“It was not an assault on Qatar; it was an assault on Hamas.”  “We do not oppose Qatar or any Arab nation; our current stance is against a terrorist organization,” he stated.

The Palestinian militant organization Hamas reported that six individuals were killed in the strikes, including the son of its chief negotiator, while asserting that its senior commanders had escaped. Qatar announced the death of one of its security agents.

Danon stated that Israel was “still awaiting the results” of the operation.

“While it is premature to assess the outcome, the decision is indeed appropriate,” he remarked.
