Elon Musk wants weak Europe, according to Germany's vice chancellor

In his New Year’s address, Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck characterized U.S. billionaire Elon Musk‘s backing of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a “logical and systematic” strategy to exploit a weakened Europe, which he suggested would struggle to impose stringent regulations.

Habeck, the chancellor candidate for the Greens party in the upcoming German national elections in February, asserted that Musk’s calls are not driven by ignorance.

It follows a logical and systematic approach. Musk is bolstering the forces that are undermining Europe. Habeck stated, “A weak Europe serves the interests of those who view regulation as an unwarranted constraint on their authority.”

On Monday, the German government levelled accusations against Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, alleging that he is attempting to sway the upcoming election through a guest opinion piece published in the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

Elon Musk, recognized as the wealthiest individual globally, has invested over $250 million to support Donald Trump’s election campaign. Trump has also appointed him to assist in streamlining the federal budget as a special adviser.

Musk expressed support for the AfD, describing it as Germany’s last hope in an article that led to the resignation of the commentary editor in protest. He lauded the party’s stance on regulation, taxation, and market deregulation, which aligns with its anti-establishment and anti-immigrant principles.
