Gunfire directed at immigration police in Chicago: Trump administration

On Saturday, a man in Chicago discharged firearms at US Border Patrol agents during an immigration enforcement operation, according to the Department of Homeland Security; however, the Chicago Police Department reported no injuries.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that the individual, operating a black Jeep, is still at large. The Chicago Police Department reported that officers responded to a complaint regarding gunfire and secured the vicinity.

The Chicago Police stated that there are no instances of individuals being struck by gunfire.

The event occurred amid demonstrations on Saturday in the Little Village area of Chicago following immigration raids conducted by federal authorities. A Reuters observer witnessed law enforcement apprehending an individual amid a dispute with residents following an immigration operation.

The DHS reported that “agitators” hurled a paint can and bricks at Border Patrol cars on Saturday during operations.

“In the last two months, there has been a rise in assaults and obstructions aimed at federal law enforcement,” stated DHS in a post on X.

Raids throughout Chicago and its neighbouring suburbs, including one at a daycare centre this week, have resulted in demonstrations and violent arrests.

Over a dozen women from suburban Chicago were apprehended on Friday outside an immigration detention centre in Broadview, a neighbourhood west of Chicago, which has been a focal point of dissent against Trump’s “Operation Midway Blitz.”

The immigration enforcement initiative in Chicago commenced in September, aiming to apprehend dangerous criminals lacking permanent residency in the United States. The DHS reports that this has led to over 3,000 arrests. The arrests have encompassed both US citizens and individuals with no prior criminal record.
