Iran strongly rejects that UN representative met with Elon Musk

Iran’s foreign ministry has refuted claims of a meeting between the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations and Elon Musk, the wealthiest individual globally and a close associate of US President-elect Donald Trump, according to reports from Iranian state media on Saturday.

According to a report from The New York Times, the meeting occurred earlier this week, as confirmed by two Iranian officials.

Iran‘s foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has firmly rejected claims of a meeting and expressed surprise at the coverage in US media, according to state-run IRNA.

Elon Musk and Iran’s envoy, Amir Saeid Iravani, met at a confidential location in New York on Monday, lasting over an hour. Iranian officials indicated the conversation centred on strategies to alleviate tensions between the two nations.

CNN has contacted Musk, Trump’s transition team, and the Iranian mission at the United Nations to verify the meeting details.
