According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, Israeli strikes and artillery shelling on Thursday resulted in the deaths of at least 50 individuals in the conflict-ridden Palestinian territory.
According to agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal, a minimum of 13 individuals were “recovered from rubble” following a dawn strike in the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis. Additionally, 35 others lost their lives in 12 separate strikes throughout the Gaza Strip.
Bassal reported that in southern Gaza, artillery shelling resulted in the death of one woman, while gunfire claimed the life of one man.
Earlier this month, the Israeli government sanctioned plans to escalate its offensive, referring to the operation as the “conquest” of Gaza.
In the aftermath of Hamas’s attack in October 2023, 251 individuals were taken hostage, with 57 still believed to be in Gaza. Among them, the military reports that 34 are confirmed deceased.
According to an AFP tally derived from official figures, the assault led to the fatalities of 1,218 individuals on the Israeli side, the majority of whom were civilians.
According to figures released by Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, which the United Nations regards as credible, Israel’s retaliatory offensive has resulted in the deaths of at least 52,928 individuals, the majority of whom are civilians.
