North Korea claims that US military assistance to Ukraine is "incredible mistake"

North Korea, facing allegations of illicitly providing arms to Russia, declared on Sunday that the United States’ military assistance amounting to $8 billion for Ukraine constitutes “an incredible mistake” and is a dangerous provocation against the nuclear-armed nation of Russia.

U.S. President Joe Biden unveiled a new package of aid during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s visit to Washington. This assistance aims to bolster Kyiv’s defense capabilities, featuring longer-range weapons designed to enhance Ukraine’s ability to engage targets in Russia from greater distances.

Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has accused Washington of intensifying the Ukraine conflict and pushing Europe closer to the edge of a nuclear war.

In a statement released by the state news agency KCNA, Kim emphasized the importance of taking Russia’s serious warning seriously, urging the United States and the West not to dismiss or underestimate its significance.

“Can the United States and its Western allies effectively manage the repercussions of their bold actions against Russia, a nation recognized as a nuclear superpower?” She stated.

In a stark warning, Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that he may resort to nuclear weapons in response to missile strikes against Russia. He further stated that any assault on the nation, particularly if supported by a nuclear power, would be regarded as a collective attack.

Kim described the decision to assist Zelenskiy in his military endeavors as a dangerous and reckless gamble, labeling the recent announcement of $8 billion in military aid as “an incredible mistake and foolish act.”

Kim, a member of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, frequently articulates the regime’s stance on political and security issues, a role widely regarded as sanctioned by the nation’s supreme leader.

In a significant shift in international relations, North Korea and Russia have strengthened their ties over the past year. The leaders of both nations have convened on two occasions, culminating in an agreement to establish a “comprehensive strategic partnership” that encompasses a mutual defense commitment.

The United States has reported that North Korea has delivered a minimum of 16,500 containers of weapons to Russia since September of the previous year, with Russia subsequently launching missiles from these shipments in its conflict with Ukraine.

North Korea and Russia have both refuted allegations of engaging in illegal arms trade.
