North Korea opposes US military drills with South Korea and Japan

On Saturday, North Korea condemned the recent joint military exercises conducted by the United States, South Korea, and Japan. The regime cautioned that it would respond immediately to safeguard its sovereignty if necessary.

Last week, a three-day joint exercise named “Freedom Edge” took place among the three countries, showcasing fighter jets, marine patrol aircraft, and the U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS George Washington.

The North’s defense ministry issued a stern warning to the United States and its allies, urging them to cease any hostile actions that could provoke instability and escalate military tensions on the Korean peninsula. The statement emphasized the potential for these provocations to lead to a genuine armed conflict in the region.

The military stated that it would maintain all options at its disposal and take prompt action if necessary to proactively manage risks while closely monitoring military activities conducted by the U.S. and its allies, according to a statement released by state media KCNA.
