Regarding Ukraine, Trump is "very unhappy" with Putin and suggests sanctions

On Friday, US President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction regarding a recent telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine. He characterised the Russian leader’s intentions as focused solely on continuing to “keep killing people.”

The situation is undeniably challenging. I expressed my deep dissatisfaction with my conversation with President Putin. “He wants to go all the way, just keep killing people; it’s no good,” Trump stated to reporters while on Air Force One.

Trump suggested that he might be prepared to escalate sanctions against Russia, a move he has refrained from for the last six months as he sought to convince Putin to cease hostilities.

“Sanctions are a frequent topic of discussion,” Trump stated. “He is aware that it could be on the horizon.”

Former President Trump reported that he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in a “very strategic call” on Friday, amid rising concerns in Kyiv regarding the delivery of US military aid.

Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that he and another leader have reached an agreement to enhance Ukraine’s air defences. This decision comes in the wake of Russia’s most extensive drone and missile attack since the onset of the invasion.

In a recent statement, Trump revealed that he had engaged in discussions regarding the potential deployment of Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine during a separate conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Friday. However, he noted that no agreement had been reached on the matter as of yet.

Trump stated that Merz “feels they have to be protected.”
