On Saturday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made an appearance at a religious event, as shown in a video broadcast by state television. This comes after reports indicated that he had been in a “secure location” during the ongoing 12-day air conflict with Israel, which has resulted in the deaths of prominent Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists.
State media broadcast footage of a ceremony commemorating Ashura, the most sacred day in the Shi’ite Muslim calendar. The video depicted a large crowd gathered, chanting in unison as Khamenei made his entrance into a hall typically used for government functions.
Khamenei has opted for pre-recorded messages throughout the ongoing conflict, which began on June 13, citing security concerns, and has refrained from making public appearances.
In remarks broadcast on state television on June 26, Khamenei asserted that Iran would not capitulate in response to the demands of U.S. President Donald Trump.
